Reconnect opens in Banggai

A new private-island retreat in the remote Banggai archipelago — from the team behind Reconnect Togean.

Why a second island

Our guests kept asking where to go next. So we went further out.

Reconnect began on Buka Buka Island, at the edge of the Togean sea: solar-powered, full-board, far from crowds. Over the years one thing became clear. People didn't want a bigger resort. They wanted the same quiet, somewhere even more remote.

Asasal Island is that place. It sits in the Banggai archipelago, a scatter of islands off the eastern arm of Sulawesi that almost no traveller reaches. We've chosen it as Reconnect's second home. We own the island. We haven't broken ground yet — and we'd like to build it with you.

The island

Asasal Island

Empty white sandbars, water in every shade of blue, and a shoreline you can walk end to end without meeting anyone. Nothing here is a render. This is Asasal today.

The people

You're a guest of the Banggai, not just the sea.

The Banggai islands are home to the Bajo, Indonesia's sea nomads, and to Tumbe, a red-drenched festival found nowhere else. A stay here is woven into real village life: the fishermen, the boat builders, the markets. Like Togean, Reconnect Banggai is built with local hands and run with local families.

Life on the water

A new horizon every morning.

Blue lakes, empty reefs, hidden sandbars — days in Banggai are spent wandering the water, one island to the next.

Beyond the island

A boat ride from Asasal

Asasal is your base — and around it lies some of Sulawesi's least-touched wild. Blue lakes, jellyfish lagoons and empty beaches, each an easy day trip by boat.

One of the clearest freshwater lakes on earth — sunken logs visible ten metres down, in impossible blue.

Jellyfish Lake, Mbuang-Mbuang

Snorkel through a lagoon of thousands of stingless jellyfish — one of only a handful of places on the planet you can.

Popisi Hill

A grassy 360° ridge locals call the Teletubbies hills — Raja Ampat views, without the crowds.

Pulau Dua

Hike a hilly little islet to a summit that opens onto rolling green hills and open sea.

Travel times are approximate and depend on the sea that day.

One name, two islands

Come for one. Return for both.

Togean and Banggai are two different corners of the same wild sea. Down the line, we'll run journeys that link them: one trip, two islands, one Reconnect.

Honest answers

Frequently asked

Is the resort built yet? +

No, and we won't pretend otherwise. We own Asasal Island and have spent time there filming and planning, but construction hasn't started. Every photo and frame on this page is the real island and the real Banggai community, today. Joining the founding list is how we fund and shape what comes next.

When will it open? +

We're targeting 2027. Building on a remote island is slow and weather-dependent, so we'd rather under-promise. Founders get honest progress updates the whole way, delays included.

What does joining the list cost? +

Nothing. The founding list is free and involves no payment or commitment. When we open the paid founding offer, list members hear first and get founder pricing. You can leave the list anytime.

Where exactly is Asasal Island? +

In the Banggai archipelago, off the eastern arm of Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. It's roughly a day's travel from the Togean Islands, where our first retreat, Reconnect Togean, already operates.

How does this relate to Reconnect Togean? +

Same brand, same people, same way of doing things. The two islands run as separate operations, under one name: Reconnect. In time we'll offer journeys that combine both.
