Best All-Inclusive Snorkeling Resort in Indonesia for a Week of Different Reefs Each Day

Reconnect Team ·

Many beach stays give you one good reef and seven days of swimming it again. We plan snorkel weeks for guests, so the itinerary and costs below use our published rates.

For a week of different reefs with meals included, we recommend Buka Buka Island in the Togean Islands, Central Sulawesi, where we run Reconnect. The house reef is free, guided snorkel sites are a short boat ride away, and a national park day trip adds new water.

TL;DR

  • A week of varied snorkeling needs distinct sites within a short boat ride, clear water and prices you can see before you book.
  • Rooms start at EUR 60 per night for two, full board, with snorkel gear, kayaks and paddleboards included.
  • Visibility around Buka Buka averages about 30 meters. The dry season brings the calmest seas. Outside it, expect short showers and rougher crossings, but the reefs stay diveable and the island is open year-round.

What makes a snorkeling resort good for a week of different reefs?

A good snorkeling resort passes three tests:

  • Distance: distinct reefs reachable in minutes by boat, not hours.
  • Range: walls and shallow slopes, so each day looks different.
  • Stewardship: the resort limits its footprint on the reef you swim.

Snorkel conditions shift with tide and wind. When sites sit close together, a guide can switch to the sheltered one that morning.

  • 93% of our power is solar; the generator is backup only.
  • All our water is desalinated on site, and we use no single-use plastics.
  • Our dive center is Blue Oceans certified.
  • Our staff are hired locally, and we partner with suppliers in neighbouring villages.

Which reefs can you snorkel around Buka Buka Island in seven days?

Apply that distance test and a seven-night plan looks like this. You get a new reef or a new way to see one most days, with only three paid outings.

Day Where Access Cost (IDR)
1 Arrive, sunset on the beach Evening shuttle from Ampana Included
2 House reef wall, about 200m from the beach Complimentary gear Included
3 Tanjung Pasir and Tanjung Gurita Guided boat, 2 spots 1,000,000 per boat
4 Shoreline by glass-bottom kayak or paddleboard Self-guided Included
5 Togean Islands National Park Togean Day Trip with guide, lunch box, snorkel gear 7,500,000 per boat, plus park fees if any
6 House reef at a different tide, or a Bajo village visit Village visit is a paid excursion Included / extra
7 Your favourite site again Guided boat, 1 spot 600,000 per boat
8 Departure 10:00 shuttle to Ampana Included

Guided snorkel boats take up to four people. Three spots cost 1,400,000 per boat.

Tanjung Pasir is a slope from the surface to 10 meters, so nervous swimmers see coral up close. On a still morning the house reef wall drops away below you in blue so clear the fish on the ledge look close enough to touch.

What does an all-inclusive snorkeling resort in Indonesia actually include?

Those paid days matter because "all-inclusive" never means everything. Read the inclusion list before you compare rates at any Indonesia all-inclusive resort.

A sample week for two in the Beachfront Glamping Hut:

  • 7 nights from €60: €420
  • The snorkel plan above (1,000,000 + 7,500,000 + 600,000): IDR 9,100,000, about €455 at 1 € ≈ 20,000 IDR
  • Return car Luwuk to Ampana: about €100
  • Total: from about €975, before flights, drinks and extras. Rates are dynamic and vary by season.

If heat is a dealbreaker, the Beachfront Villa with AC starts at €110. Not every room has air conditioning, and few Togean Islands resorts offer it at all.

The phrase "Private Island Resort" describes our near-exclusive guest experience: Reconnect is effectively the only resort on Buka Buka. Reconnect does not own all of Buka Buka.

How do you get to Buka Buka Island, and when should you go?

The Togean Islands have no airport. Luwuk is the main reliable gateway. Gorontalo is another option.

Route 1: Luwuk (the main gateway)

  • Step 1: Fly to Luwuk (LUW), usually via Makassar.
  • Step 2: Take a private car to Ampana, about 5 hours, for IDR 1,000,000 per car (max 4) each way. We arrange it and send the driver's name, phone number and photo by WhatsApp.
  • Step 3: Board our free shuttle from the jetty in Tete B, Ampana. It leaves at 17:00 and takes about 30 minutes.
  • If a third-party delay makes you miss the boat, our policy treats the booking as a no-show. You can also sleep one night in Ampana, and we can recommend comfortable hotels there.

Route 2: Gorontalo

Take the overnight ferry from Gorontalo to Wakai, then an inter-island boat or private charter.
