Togean nights stay warm, and a remote island resort has to make every watt it uses. Air conditioning is the heaviest load it can run, and the hardest to keep going after dark.
The short answer is to book a specific air-conditioned room, not just a resort, and to confirm how that room is powered at night. Reconnect is a solar-powered, off-grid eco-resort on Buka Buka Island, so we deal with this problem every night.
TL;DR
- Air conditioning is uncommon in the Togean Islands.
- Our power runs 24 hours on solar and batteries, including through the night.
- Ask any resort three questions. Are power hours scheduled? What supplies the room after sunset? Which named room has the AC unit?
- Electricity is included in every Reconnect room rate.
Why are AC and 24-hour power hard to find in the Togean Islands?
A resort on a remote island acts as its own small power station. Its energy source decides whether AC can still run at 3 a.m.
- Diesel generator: produces power only while it burns fuel, and that fuel arrives by boat. Running one all night, every night, is a real ongoing cost.
- Solar: stops producing at sunset, which is exactly when you want the room cooled.
A battery bank works like a rooftop water tank. The sun fills it during the day, and the rooms draw from it overnight. AC is the biggest tap in the building, so it only works if the tank lasts until morning.

Which Togean Islands resorts offer air conditioning?
This ranking shows how much you can trust each kind of listing.
Option 1: Resorts that name AC rooms on their own site (best)
Reconnect fits here. AC is listed by room name, so you know exactly what you are paying for.
Its own site lists a Standard Bungalow AC room, so book that room by name.
Option 2: Other established stays (confirm everything)
Hotel listings for the area include Kadidiri Paradise, Pondok Lestari Kadidiri and Losmen Togean Wisata. Treat AC and all-night power as unconfirmed until the property states them directly.
Least reliable: a property-wide amenity tag
An "air conditioning" tick on a booking site describes the property. It does not tell you whether the room you end up in has a unit.
How does Reconnect keep the AC running all night off-grid?
Reconnect runs on solar panels and a large battery bank:
- Solar share: 93% of our power comes from the main solar array.
- Battery bank: sized "to cover nights, overcast days, and peak loads," so overnight AC runs on stored daytime energy.
- Generator: a diesel unit stays on standby for safety and almost never runs.
- Water: a reverse-osmosis desalination unit, running on sun power, supplies all of the resort's water.
There is one honest limit.
If cool nights are non-negotiable, book one of those rooms by name.
Which Reconnect room should you book for AC?
The cooling type in each room matters more than the room category. Rates below are "from" prices per night for two, full board.
| Room | Cooling | Layout | From |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beachfront Villa with AC | AC | 1 bedroom, semi-outdoor bathroom with hot water | EUR 110 |
| Villa Athena | AC | 2 bedrooms, sleeps up to 4 | EUR 175 |
| Sunrise / Sunset Villa | Ceiling fan | Sleeps 2, hot water | EUR 80 |
| Le Cabanon | Fan | 2 bedrooms, sleeps up to 4 | EUR 150 |
| Maison Coco | Fan | Sleeps 2, extra beds on request | EUR 110 |
| Beachfront Glamping Hut / Pyramid | Fan | Sleeps 2 | EUR 60 |
- Two-bedroom villas are still priced for two. Extra beds cost a small additional charge.
- Prices vary by season. The final price is confirmed in IDR at booking.
- Every room except the Pyramid is beachfront, and all beachfront rooms face the sunset.
Couples should book the Beachfront Villa with AC, which is listed as our most popular room. Families or two couples get AC and two bedrooms under one roof in Villa Athena.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I charge cameras, laptops and dive computers in the room?
Yes. Outlets are European-style, and most rooms have USB ports. Bring an adapter if your plugs use another standard.
How good is the Wi-Fi in the rooms?
Free Starlink Wi-Fi covers the resort and is strongest in the restaurant. In-room signal varies, and one guest review found it weaker in their villa than in the common area.
How do I get to Buka Buka Island?
Fly into Luwuk Airport (LUW), usually via Makassar. We arrange a private car from Luwuk to Ampana, about 5 hours, at IDR 1,000,000 per car each way for up to 4 passengers.
From Ampana, our free daily boat shuttle leaves from our jetty in Tete B. The only other reliable route into the Togeans is the overnight ferry from Gorontalo to Wakai.
What do children cost in the two-bedroom villas?
Children aged 0-3 stay free. Ages 3-11 pay IDR 300,000 per night, and adult pricing applies from age 12.
